Is your favorite pickup dead or weak sounding? Dead pickups usually have a broken coil winding and can be repaired. If the broken wire is undetectable, it's probably too deep to repair and would need to be rewound.  In weak pickups the magnets may have lost their charge. Just send it to Smit's Parts and we can fix you up. All pickups welcome, including bass guitar.

We can also soup up your thin/low output pickups. Say your Stratocaster® or Telecaster® bridge pickup is thin sounding compared to the others, which is not uncommon. Let us rewind it to a slightly hotter spec so you can finally use that position by itself, problem solved. We can also rewind or unwind to a lower output.

-rewind humbucker, P-bass, single coils- $30 per coil (includes re-potting)

-rewind Jazz bass, or oversized bobbins- $35 per coil (includes re-potting)

-vintage paper bobbin rewind- $50 (all sizes, the delicate condition of these bobbins requires great care and time when removing old wire and prepping for rewind)

-Schecter tapped single coil repair and rewind. These collectable pickups (usually in a sss pickguard) are notorious for having a bad bridge position. Sweat wicks down through the low E pole magnet and corrodes the inner coil, requiring the entire pickup be rewound. $80 SEE PHOTOS

-single-coil reverse rewind + re-polarize magnets- $35 (includes re-potting) If you get 60 cycle hum in your Stratocaster® 2 and 4 positions the middle pickup can be reverse wound/re-polarized. Or your Telecaster® neck and bridge "middle position" is noisy, either pickup can be reversed to eliminate the problem.

-potting- $10 per pickup

-convert humbucker lead to vintage braided or 4 conductor- $20 per pickup (includes re-potting if required)

-add tap wire to a humbucker- $15 (includes re-potting if required)

-re-polarize/re-magnetize magnet(s) including Peter Green/Gary Moore mod (change magnet polarity in your neck pickup, humbucker only)- $15

-complete humbucker re-work (disassemble, clean, rewind both coils to your spec, wax pot)- $80 (subject to additional charges with extensive modifications or when replacing missing parts)

-rush service- any repair that requires overnight repair and return- additional $50 (does not include express return shipping. TBD by location and shipping service)

-troubleshoot and repair- $30 hr

We are unable to work on pickups that are sealed in epoxy (i.e. EMG, PJ Marx)

We have old formula plain enamel wire for original style rewinds required for vintage Stratocaster pickups, PAF humbuckers, or any pickup with black/dark brown wire. This wire is no longer being produced but we have it in stock for your rewind and carries an up-charge of $5 per coil.

Customer comments on our pickup repairs and rewinds-

WOW-
Kevin—There’s not much more I can say than that!  What an amazing piece of work—truly amazing.
I can’t believe the tone and clarity...thanks so much!
(Gibson T-top rebuilt to EBS-2 spec)
The pickup arrived yesterday. It sounds great! There is very little difference in tone between what it did
sound like and what it sounds like now. It sounds a little deeper and warmer now, but I think of that as
a good thing. The most important part is that it does retain the tradition Ric tone. I'll refer others to you
for pickup repair. Thanks again!

DUDE!!  killer single coil!  i did quick install/setup and played for 30 min. couldn't put it down! Sounds raw & raspy! perfect smoky tone. sounds even better in pos'n 2. sweet quacky/bitey tone. you nailed it again kev. here's it's new home---'66 maple neck strat.

The Strat and Mustang pickup you repaired for me works great and still has that vintage look.  Thanks for the fast turnaround and the fair price.  I am sure we will be sending some more in the future.

I have over 12 Stratocaster guitars ...but one of my favorites is my first one, a 1978 hardtail, black on black with a maple neck that weighs about 11 lbs but it sounds amazing ..and I have been wanting to take it to the sports bars my band  plays at without worrying about all the hum and buzz due to neons and such, as it didnt have the RWRP middle pickup ...I wanted it to sound the same with noisefree performance in the inbetween positions ...I found out about Kevin Smits from a friend of mine and he recommended Smits Parts. I knew I had to check them out ...so with great trepidation I removed the middle pickup and sent him 3 other pickups that were either non functioning or I wanted rewound hotter ...Kevin took the time to listen to what I wanted to accomplish before I sent them ...contacted me immediately once he recieved them and worked with me on the delivery ....I couldnt wait to reinstall it in the 78 strat and it sounds just like it did, but with noise cancelling in the 4 and 2 positions ...but what really shocked me was it looks exactly the same ...the wire ..for those pickups is very blackish looking ...I thought he had reused the same wire ...but he didnt ..he is that meticulous in making sure it sounds right and looks right and is right. Plus he confirmed that one of the pickups I thought didnt work did ..so he's an honest guy on top of all that !!!!.....So send him your pickups and relax ..this guy knows what hes doing ....I cant wait to buy some of his original pickups for some of my future projects.

Received the coil Sat...

Sounds good.
PUP seems to have the same characteristics it had before.
Good Job... I'd say you nailed it!
